There are indication that a new helmsman might likely emerged for the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, after the resignation of its Chairman, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, on Sunday, last week, in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
It was gathered that leaders of the group had started deliberating on the person that would succeed Pa Fasoranti who cited age as one of the reasons for his exit from the foremost organisation.
Daily Times gathered that leaders of the group had already billed a meeting at the home of Pa Rueben Fasoranti for today (Wednesday), where a new course would be charted on the way forward.
The purported internal crisis rocking the organisation would also be discussed at the meeting.
Sources told the Daily Times that those who might likely attend today’s meeting would be core leaders of the group.
One of the sources said the outcome of the meeting would later be communicated to the members of the group through a joint communiqué.
The group’s Secretary General, Sehinde Arogbofa, had told some journalists that top on the agenda of today’s meeting would be how to address the claims of disunity among its members as stated in
Fasoranti’s resignation later.
Arogbofa added that the meeting would be strictly for its members.
Children and aides of Pa Reuben Fasoranti have been barring journalists who had mounted surveillance around his compound from gaining access to him.
The mobile line of the elder statesman also remained switched off since Sunday evening while text messages sent to it were undelivered.
But a member of the group told journalists that Fasoranti was “actually indisposed and on medication”, which was the reason he had remained incommunicado.
